Flicking through some old sketchbooks as I look forward to making some more collage pieces, it's great reviewing ideas collected over the years. As well as checking my own work I'm also looking around finding inspiration, admiring lots of work that is out there for us all to see.

Put together from a stills sequence taken at the WSL Billabong Pro Pipeline. Still tussling with imovie, probably not diving in deep enough, but good grief can it suck the hours away. I thought it was a good idea to resize the photos before importing them into imovie, wrong I'm guessing. Perseverance required!

Without the experience or necessary skills, I remembered on random occasions that my camera has video capabilities and so went about collecting files to produce, or at least attempt to, short videos or reels. After years of taking stills, the pursuit of dealing with movement and sound really has layers of unseen considerations.

Amazing trip back to Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka, after 36 years. The first journey was as a young surfer in 1987, along with a band of dedicated tearaways that saw and surfed a lot in the months we spent there.
I visited Dickwella, 80km south of Hikkaduwa in January 2022 and had seen some of the changes the island has gone through over the years. But this recent jaunt was a direct return to a place etched firmly on my mind, there was always a risk of being disappointed as places become unrecognisable as the world turns far from the time remembered.
Last years visit prepared me for some of the developments likely to trouble me, apart from difficult pockets here and there, probably the same that are found globally, it was fantastic, still a real jewel.
